Overall Driver’s Ed Process

The most important event in the minds of most teens is the day they receive their Driver’s License. However, in order for a teen to receive this privilege there is a process that he or she must go through. Until this process is accomplished, a teen will not be allowed behind the wheel until the age of eighteen. Fortunately, the Internet allows students the ability to get started in their driver’s education online in the comfort of their own home.
The first step that any would-be driver under eighteen will need to accomplish is driver’s education. In driver’s education, the student learns the fundamental mechanics of driving and driving laws that keep driver’s safe on the road. Because the course is content driven, the Internet provides a great opportunity to finish this segment of a students education at their own pace.
Once the student has completed driver’s education, he or she will make an appointment with the DMV to take the permit test. This test, like any a student would take in school, makes sure the teen has a comprehensive grasp on the material every driver is expected to know.
After this test is passed and the student receives their permit, the actual driving begins. By signing up with a driving school, the actual behind-the-wheel training can begin. After the first lesson, the student will be able to accomplish the remainder of their permit requirements with an adult 25 years of age or older.
After the permit training, the true event every teen looks forward to arrives- the California Driver’s License test. This test consists of a behind the wheel examination with a DMV employee to ensure that the driver is ready to handle the car without adult supervision. If this test is passed, the student will have their Driver’s License. This provisional license allows the teen to drive, but with restrictions. For the first six months, the driver will not be allowed to drive with anyone less than 20 years of age unless accompanied by an adult 25 or older. For the first twelve months, driving is restricted to the hours between 5 a.m. - 11 p.m. After twelve months the license ceases to be provisional and the driver is allowed to drive without provision (less, of course, those of his or her parents or guardians.)
Though if the driver is not careful in their driving and is caught breaking a driving law, such as speeding, they may be required by a Judge to go to Traffic School. At Traffic School, the driver will learn what they did wrong in an eight to ten hour course. If the driver attends this eight-ten hour class, the infraction will be dismissed from the driver’s record. Traffic School is not available for violations that involve drugs, alcohol or traffic accidents; also, the driver may not attend Traffic School if they were cited for speeding in excess of 25 miles per hour. Fortunately, Traffic School can be taken online.
The road to getting a Driver’s License has many steps but in the end, the freedom it allows the driver makes it all worth it. At cal-driver-ed.com we can help you along the path in the comfort of your own home.
